Key Person

What is a key person?

A key person is the special person at nursery who has particular responsibility for your child and just a few others. When you come to nursery, you can talk to any of our team – you’ll find them all very approachable and well informed. But your key person will know your child inside out.

The special person at nursery who has particular responsibility for your child

That’s why, at Tiny Toez, we encourage parents and carers to take advantage of our free induction visits, which provide the opportunity for you and your child to get to know your key person.

It also enables your key person to find out more about your child – their interests, any anxieties or challenges. Then, the key person can get things ready so, rather than going to a strange, scary place, your child will find much that is reassuringly familiar like favourite toys, books or play equipment. And when your child is ready to stay on their own, make sure they bring their comforter – Teddy or even Dr Who.

A win-win situation

Preparation is all important. Then, if your child gets upset (it happens to us all, big and small), their key person will know how to make things better.

And what if you already have one child at our nursery? We like brothers and sisters in the same room to have the same key person. It makes it easier for the children and for the key person, who gets to understand your family dynamics. It also saves you time, as you will have just one person to liaise with at the end of your busy day.

So, if you want to know how your child is progressing, or if you have any concerns at all, then the first person to talk to person-to-person or by email is your key person.
